Gerig’s Musings

Some daily thoughts

Another one

Don had another seizure this morning that prompted us to get him to the hospital again.  It wasn’t quite as extensive as the one he had a month ago at home.  But, it had started to go up into his shoulder from his hand and arm, then into the left side of his chest and to his head a little.  Because the neurologist is the one that is the expert in seizures and does not visit patients at the SNF, we thought it wise to get him to the hospital.  At the Rehab Center they had given him a pill to help him relax and, hopefully, stop the seizing.  But, they take so long to work.  He was still seizing when we got to ER after about 1 1/2 hrs.  They gave him more meds by IV and it wasn’t long before he got sleepy and stopped seizing.  It is the type of med that makes him sleepy but can be awakened to respond to commands or eat, etc.  (For our doctor and nurse friends, it was Ativan.)

When Don did awaken from time to time he was very much himself,  joking with the ambulance people saying he really wanted a helicopter ride and telling some of the same nurses he had a month ago that they had to stop meeting like this.  All of that was encouraging to me because some days lately he’s been somewhat sullen and non-communicative.  But, the swelling they found on the scan today may have already contributed to his loss of appetite and general well being, besides being the probable cause of the seizure.

Every night after I leave him I remind myself that he belongs to God and He will do what is best for him.  I don’t know how an unbeliever can make it at times like these.  We are so appreciative of so many of you who are remembering us in prayer.  Almost every day I get a card or message that someone else is praying for us.  What more can we ask?  Thank you so much.  Caroline

  3. We continue to pray for Don and family! I can’t imagine the heartache of leaving someone you love not quite knowing (as if we ever do) what will happen during the night. We pray you will both feel God’s hand upon your shoulder throughout the day and night.

  5. We are praying that the Lord will will provide
you and your family the strength that you need
for each day. Also praying that the Lord will
heal your body. I’m still a Dallas Cowboy fan.
I hope and pray you will change also.

  7. You and Don were the focus of many middle-of-the-night prayers last night. Holding you both close and praying He will remind you of His great love and amazing Grace through this journey.

  8. Thank you for continuing to write of your journey so faithfully. I have often said that it is hard to pray into a vacuum. We’re glad you see the glass half full and that is why you make such a good team and are such a comfort to Don. We continue to pray for you each day please know that God is too wise to make a mistake, he’s too kind to be cruel so when you can’t see the hand of God we are praying that you will be able to trust his heart.
